Side note: I apologize for being out so many times so far this school year due to district business commitments. I try to let students know in advance and also make an effort to request reliable substitute teachers that the students are familiar with. However, I gotta say, they are such great helpers when I am out though. They've become honorary Tech Support to a certain extent....which makes me so proud.
When we get back from spring break, students will no longer rotate for RTI. However, that doesn't mean students will lose reading instruction time. Students will have a longer duration in class to complete Daily 5, a framework to help students become lifelong learners in reading, writing, and lifelong workers. Students will have choices such as read to self, work on writing, read to someone, listen to reading, and word work. Recently, I've researched more read aloud books to target specific reading comprehension strategies to teach in class. I've created a DonorsChoose project to request for 36 books. If you would like to help and contribute to this project, it would be greatly appreciated. I will use many of these books for the remaining school year and they would help with the reading curriculum for years to come. What's great is that they are currently offering matching donations, so if you donate $10, it'll actually be worth $20. The project and an updated wishlist is posted here.
In math, we are closing out our measuring unit and we will start doing more three-digit addition/subtraction and learning about place values up to 1,000. In science, students are learning about Balance and Motion. Soon we will also start on our Timeline Projects and next up will be our Earth Science Unit on rocks.
It was great talking to a handful of parents already this week during parent-teacher conferences. I look forward to seeing and talking to everyone else the next few days. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
