Happy New Year! Our week started off on a great note with Smart Start Day on the first day back. In second grade, students rotated between each second grade classrooms and got to do many activties, including science, literature, art, and tech-infused lessons. It was certainly a great way to re-energize and motivate both students (and teachers) as we settle back into school. We have many upcoming events that will take place before President's Week Break that I hope you take note of.
Next week, students will learn about biographies and to introduce the unit and honor MLK Day, we will learn all about Martin Luther King Jr. Please make sure to look out for information about the famous person project. Your child will be assigned a person in history to learn about and present the information in class.
On January 20th, the water district will come visit our classroom to do an in-house lesson on ways to save water. This will help reinforce more skills on informational reading and writing.
On February 1st, Noddin will participate in Global Play Day where students get a chance to bring various non-tech games to class and engage in new play/learning with their friends. More information will be sent by Mr. Scharer about the specifics.
On Feburary 10th, we will have our second field trip to the Palo Alto Children's Theater to watch The Three Little Pigs. If you could chaperone, please email me in advance. I will also send out a notice a couple of weeks before the field trip to ask for volunteers.
Something else to look forward to, but won't be taking place until March is a field trip to Levi's Stadium! Over winter break, I got news that my application for the Levi's Stadium field trip was approved and our students will get to visit the STEM lab and participate in an engaging experience at Levi's. More information will be given.
